Mia Dearden was not only a female version of Speedy but a groundbreaking character in her own right. First appearing in Green Arrow 2 by Kevin Smith, Phil Hester, and Ande Parks, Mia Dearden was introduced as an abused runaway teenager who was eventually forced into a trafficking ring.
Saved by Green Arrow , she instantly became enamored with the hero and stayed by his side. He officially took her under his wing as a sort of daughter to keep her off the streets. He even trained her in archery, while his son Connor Hawke taught her martial arts and grew close to her.
